Scout Notebook 2020/2021

The spring season is winding down for 2018 and summer baseball is on its way. As of May 1st we have a lot of outstanding performances from players in the 2020 and 2021 recruiting classes. Here is a list of players that are making a name this spring in Missouri. With only 5 players committed to schools there is a lot of talent for Universities.

CJ Cepicky  (Vianney, 2020) – At 6-3 175, Cepicky is a great athlete that can play SS and OF. He is hitting .444 with 16 RBI and 10 SB for the nationally ranked Griffins. He has a strong arm from both the INF and OF.

Matt Schark (Francis Howell, 2020) – Stands at 6-3 with a filled out body at 210 Lbs. He is hitting .391 with 2 HR, 21 RBI and 6 doubles. Schark has a strong build and looks to continue the trend of Howell players continuing on to top colleges.

Ty Stauss (Lafayette, 2020) – Stauss offers the ability to play all over the field for the Lancers. His older brother attends SEMO as a catcher. Stauss can play INF and catch. He is hitting .487 on the season and paces the Lancers offense.

John Kramer (Lafayette, 2021) – Kramer is a LHH in the OF and a special arm on the mounds. This season he is contributing in the box hitting .464 with 3 HR and 9 RBI. Just a freshman, he is still learning to pitch at this level but his bat has handled the jump.

Dominic Copeland (Valley Park, 2020) – Hitting .404 with 16 RBI and 6 doubles isn’t easy at any level as Copeland is producing for the Class 3 Hawks. Their schedule has a lot of teams in higher classes and Copeland has handled the competition as a sophomore.

Ben Borgmann (Parkway North, 2020) - As a freshman he pitched 47 innings and this year is no different. The Vikings are on of the hottest teams in the state and Borgmann has pitched 37 innings with 33 Ks and a 1.69 ERA. He has 3 wins on the year to go along with his outstanding pitching stats.

Jeremy Schork (Summit, 2020) – This spring has produced a launching pad for Schork as he has exploded on the scene. He is hitting .431 with 12 HR and 43 RBI. He has 8 doubles to go along with those numbers. Schork has a XBH intention that produces monster power. He also gets it done on the mound for Summit as they look to do damage with a young core of players.

Cole Robinson (Summit, 2020) – Another power bat from Summit who has produced 7 HR and 25 RBI to go along with his .418 average. Robinson is a big body that plays with a lot of emotion. He has some of the best raw power in the state across any class.

Sean Barnett (Summit, 2021) – This freshman stepped right in on a loaded Summit team and has a .351 average with 1 HR and 7 RBI. He also has a strong arm for his age that could develop into a top starter for Summit down the line.

Connor Throneberry (Marquette, 2021) – The freshman has the third most at bats on a very good Mustang team. Even though his numbers aren’t blowing anyone out the water you can see the crazy upside. He is getting on base and has shown his + power. He is 6-5 so it will take some time for him to grow into his body. He also already has a low 80’s fastball.

Alex Logusch (DeSmet, 2020) – The recent Indiana commit has hit 3 HR and .333 on the season. He has also pitched 11 innings on the bump for the Spartans. Logusch looks to be a top of the line SS and SP for the Spartans and carry the torch after this senior class heads off to college.

Ethan Schmitt (Valley Park, 2020) – Over 17 innings Schmitt has 26 Ks and 3 wins for Valley Park. Schmitt has a powerful arm that can run up to the high 80s. He still has a lot of development but will be a no doubt D1 arm.

Tyson James (Webster Groves, 2020) – At 6-4 210 Lbs. James has the prototypical pitcher build. James was able to get into the upper 80s and has the potential to get into the low 90s after this summer. He has 39 Ks in 29 innings over 7 starts for Webster. James is a high follow for the 2020 class.

Tom McPherson (Webster Groves, 2020) – Another RHP from Webster has posted a 3.32 ERA in 7 games. He has 3 wins and 25 innings on the year. McPherson uses his off speeds efficiently and sits in the low 80s for now. McPherson will take a huge jump with increased velocity.

Brayden Haug (Westminster, 2020) – Haug has an athletic frame with long limbs. He is 3-0 on the mound this season for the 22-2 Cats. He has the ability to develop into a mid 80’s pitcher very soon and has a bat that will play after this season. High follow for his potential on the mound and at the plate.

Ian Lohse – (Marquette, 2020) – The skinny LHP may be one of the best in the state no matter what class. He sits low to mid 80’s and has produced a 3-0 record for Marquette. In 29 innings he has 51 Ks and a 1.19 ERA. These are absurd numbers especially a sophomore. Should see a big time commitment this summer.

Dalton Short (O’Fallon Christian, 2021) – A powerful catcher that caught attention with tremendous power and a strong arm. He is hitting .400 with 3 HR and 6 doubles. He plays a premium position and looks to stay there. His bat could play at 3B or 1B if needed as well.

Elliot Krewson (Parkway West, 2021) - The athletic MIF and RHP has a lot of potential in both arenas. He has given up one earned run in 3 games and is also posting modest numbers at the plate. He looks to take center stage when the historic senior class graduates.

Brock Daniels (Vianney, 2021) – Playing as a freshman is hard at any school. But imagine playing at a 28-2 nationally ranked school. This should be no pressure for Daniels who has played on one of the top club teams in the state and is already committed to Mizzou. He is hitting .297 with 14 RBI and 5 XBH. He will be a veteran when 2019 comes rolling around.

Christian Little (CBC, 2021) - If you haven’t heard of Little by now you are late to the party. The Vanderbilt commit has pitched in 7 games for the Cadets and paced them with 32 innings. He has 34 Ks and a 1.53 ERA. Little looks to be the front-runner for the #1 player in his class and a top player in the country.

Shea McGahan (Lindbergh, 2021) - Starting at catcher, as a freshman is a tall order and McGahan has done just that. He is hitting .288 with a homer and 11 RBI. Even more impressive is his .980 FLD. This Mizzou commit will be another top player in the country for MO.

William Laakko (Clayton, 2020) – Laakko is another player that has got it done on the mound and at the plate. He is 4-1 on the mound with 30 Ks in 29 innings. His ERA sits at 1.93. He is also hitting .397 with 11 RBI. He is a player that will open more eyes when he gets more competitive looks.

Hunter Miller (Marquette, 2020) – At 6-2 200 Lbs., Miller is a strong-bodied 3B. He has 2 HR and 13 RBI. More power will come as he continues to develop and mature. Miller is a left-handed bat with an easy load and line drive production.

Matthew Arnold (Marquette, 2020) – The catcher for the Mustangs has produced 15 RBI and a .370 average. His extra base power will develop as he matures but has all the tools to stick behind the plate and hit for a high average.

Anthony Klein (Parkway Central, 2020) – Klein has pitched in 8 games for the Colts going 4-1. He has a 3.14 ERA in 42 innings and 32 Ks over that time. Klein has been the ace the Colts needed for one of the toughest districts in the state.
